“TGIF :)… until you realize you have no time @ all”

“THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY” is one of the most heard lines in the entire country every Friday right around 4 or 5 p.m. Most people are getting off work and picking up their children, many students are getting ready to head home for the weekend, and others are just waiting for the festivities of the weekend to begin. *smiles* I mean after all you really worked hard this week so you deserve a break right??  *halfway smile*

WRONG!

If any of you are like myself, you hate Fridays!!!! Why might you ask?!?! Well because many people don’t take a break like they should. Even though you may not have classes or have to work, many individuals spend the time worrying, complaining, thinking, preparing, and downright hating the week they just ended or the one that will soon be beginning. *throws hands up, while trying to grab a pillow and scream, or remotely just pulling out hair*

Therefore in concurrence with my recent chapter review in my Psychopathology course *smiles*, try some relaxation techniques. They truly are helpful and can really give you a sense of relief. Some that help me are:

1. Prayer: I am a firm Christian believer and I notice that with each day if I am more conscious of my prayer and what I’m asking I feel a sense of relief throughtout the day, especially in the mornings *smiles*

2. Taking walks: We have a beautiful campus and if you just sit outside and listen, observe, and feel the cool breeze and warmth of the sun you’ll become peaceful.

3. LAUGHTER: *chuckles* Many times people forget, even in pyschological therapy and medical issues, that laughter increases the hardiness of ones personality and overall body feelings.  Laugh as much as possible at the dumbest things, it really does make you feel better and your body as well.

So that is it for me on this day:) remember to keep it “g-style” that’s all for “da kid” till next time, TGIF!!!! *smiles brightly*

Spring Break Withdrawals

Maybe I’m still in denial about spring break already being over (yes, a full week after it’s conclusion) but I’ve found it extremely difficult to get in school mode again. Let alone, test mode, having a Wednesday exam that came as a surprise to the class on Monday as we looked around in confusion upon its referral.

I just find it hard to bring your stats book to the beach while you’re soaking in the sun, or to study while you are wastefully sleeping in 5-6 hours more than you normally would. Spring break is exactly that – a BREAK! Who studies on their break?

Let’s say you’re at work for example; a regular 9-5 shift. And you have an hour break at noon for lunch. Are you going to bring your lunch with you to the cash register and still ring up customers with a subway sandwich in your hand? I rest my case.

Now I’m not by any means declaring any and all potential school work during spring break a “college sin” because that is actually very responsible, and I envy those with the motivation to do so. I just can’t find the desire to pick up a book that I’ve spent the previous 8 weeks deciphering. I literally count down the days to spring break, not to study again, but to take a break from it.

Spring break always seems to come around at the perfect time too. The week right before you feel your last marbles of sanity rolling away. Just the thought of having a week with no type of obligations is music to my ears. It’s okay to do absolutely nothing productive during your spring break.
As long as there’s not a test the following week that you forget about. Then you’re in trouble like me and now must spend a majority of your sleep hours studying instead. Oh, the joys of college.

Gosh, you incoming freshmen should be straight A students given all the lessons you are learning from my mistakes. And as always, do as I say, not as I do… you’ll be much better off, I promise!
😉

Procrastination = The Enemy

For those who don’t know, my time management is fairly challenged and to your left is what a typical Sunday night would look like for me, as I try to cram loads of assignments into hours on end, until I realize I have a class in 30 minutes. Time management is a concept that can’t necessarily be taught, but can be easily manipulated through positive and negative reinforcements. You’d think the older I got, the better it’d get and the less I’d procrastinate, right? Ha! I wish it were that easy. Unless a professor tells me the deadline is the next day, I tend to push assignments as far off as possible until I’m still in the library 5am that morning trying to get them all done. That’s actually how I coined the term “library girl”, because my freshman year, I was known to camp out in the library at all hours of the night with stacks of homework. And it’s almost like professors have this secret alliance where they mark all deadlines in the same DAY! How cruel, right? So now I’m not only forced to do mass amounts at once, but now I have to prioritize and figure out which one counts for the most points and has the biggest impact on my grade, so I know to spend more time and put more effort into that one. Nonetheless, this is college and nobody is going to baby you through it. No more holding our hands through tough times like they did in high school. Self-discipline is a powerful thing, and only you can control how long you decide to wait to start assignments. So do as I say, not as I do! Lol

Finals Schedule

If you haven’t taken a look at the Finals schedule yet, here is your chance so you will be able to plan and study accordingly. With about 4 days in between, finals are not too far-fetched after Thanksgiving break. Don’t be discouraged, but then again, don’t wait til the last minute to start studying. No more high school procrastination guys – this is college! Lol, but good luck!
