Marlee Johnson Profile

I’ll start off with a bit of a boring introduction. I am currently a junior at Baker studying mass media with an emphasis in public relations.

Honestly, my senior year of high school went by so fast that I don’t really remember when I decided to come to Baker, but I do remember receiving a campus tour and auditioning for music scholarships. The kindness of the staff and the people that I met are the main reasons why I came to Baker.

I went to a large school in Olathe, Kan., and didn’t want to “follow” my friends to college. I wanted to branch out on my own and make new friends. It was scary to come to a school not knowing many people, but I am so glad I did. I’m just lucky that majority of my friends are only 10 minutes away in Lawrence.

Music was another reason that I came to this school. I have been singing my whole life, but knew that I didn’t want to major in music. At Baker, I have been given so many great opportunities within the music department. I currently sing in the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers. We have an outstanding director who is so much fun to work with.

I am a member of Delta Delta Delta, where I have met the most amazing women and made the best friends.  One reason why I joined this house was because of our amazing philanthropy, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. I have truly enjoyed participating in Tri-Delta’s many philanthropy events and I was overjoyed when I was selected to attend a conference in Memphis, TN. While at the conference, I received a tour of St. Jude that I will never forget.

Now I am getting serious about figuring out exactly what I want to do after graduation. It is crazy how fast my time here has flown by. I can’t believe that I only have 3 semesters left before graduation.

If you have any questions feel free to ask me! I am looking forward to blogging.
