Wildcat Wins!

The only thing better than getting an extra hour of sleep Saturday night was the Baker teams that came out on top this weekend. Baker men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, cross country, football, and wrestling were all victorious this weekend!

The Baker men have been the buzz of town as they’ve been featured on ESPN’s blog, the front page of Yahoo, and various other news sources like Lawrence Journal World. Sam Kenney, a sophomore guard from Manhattan, Kan., is the one who hit the miraculous, half-court buzzer beater. If there is anyone who deserved to make a shot like this, it’s him. There isn’t anyone more humble and team-oriented than this guy and he’s single-handedly won the respect of thousands, as the viral video has received over half a million views on YouTube and counting. The mens team also posted a 63-59 win over Tabor College on Friday night.

The Baker women’s volleyball team, a No. 6 seed in the HAAC Playoffs upset No. 3 William Jewell College 3-2 on Saturday evening.
Offensively, sophomore Savannah Smith led the way recording 21 kills, while Brooke Allen anchored the defense with 52 digs.

Led by freshman Lauren Jaqua, Baker University placed seven runners in the top 20 and captured the Heart of America Athletic Conference women’s cross country championship on Saturday at the Baldwin City Golf Course. With the team title, the Wildcats qualified for the NAIA national meet on Nov. 20 in Vancouver, Wash. The Wildcats finished with 33 points to edge William Jewell, the team runner-up with 44 points.

The women’s basketball team traveled to Oklahoma to play in the Northwestern Oklahoma State Tournament in which we won the tournament and now hold a record of 2-0, just like the men. Our next game will be this Wednesday where we travel to Friends University along with the men’s team.

The Baker football team went out with a bang on their Senior day and last home game of the season. They beat Evangel 41-6 and was led defensively by Colton Miller’s seven tackles, two interceptions and two pass break-ups.

The Baker wrestling had a pretty busy weekend as they hosted two big events. They wrestled past Calumet College posing a 41-9 score and below is the scenery I experienced on Sunday morning.

It’s a great time to be a Wildcat. Come out and continue the support for the Wildcats as the playoff run continues with the fall season sports. Women’s soccer hosts
Lindenwood University tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Liston Stadium. The men’s soccer team also hosts Benedictine College on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Liston Stadium, as well. And the Baker Volleyball team travels to Lindenwood on Wednesday for the 2nd round of conference playoffs.

Go BU!

You need to stay and work at Baker after you graduate, Glo. You are one of the BEST ambassadors for our university I’ve ever seen!

You are far too kind Coach Allen! I would LOVE to work for Baker after I graduate *hint hint* – but the key word is graduate! Ha, still have a year and a half to go.

P.S. Not sure if my body will tolerate any more of these long and cold 6-month winter seasons. Haha
