I have noticed that many girls in college as well as high school have difficult personal issues. *sighs* They have problems with their weight, their nose, their clothes, their hair, and so on and so forth.  Society and magazines view us one way and many times regardless of how independent many young women appear to be, deep down they are their own worst enemy.

Appearance has become such a strong entity in American society and if girls do not have the right “look” they feel they are cast out amongst the ranks.  *smh* I have had my own personal struggles with my own appearance demon.  She has perched on my shoulder plenty of times as I look in the mirror and told me I wasn’t pretty enough or good enough.  *sigh*

Many times, the cause of these feelings for girls are not to truly please themselves, but to please others around them. In particular, GUYS!!! *rolls eyes* But what I have learned is that most of the time girls that try to change their appearnace so they become more attractive to some guy, usually shouldn’t be with him anyway. *throws up hands* We as women have to learn that we are more than just body and looks, but we have beautiful minds and personalities.

So Many Nights…Never

By: Katerra Shackelford

So many nights she cried tears of pain; never any for joy.

So many nights she studied her figure head to toe; never because she thought something was wrong.

So many nights she prayed harder than Mary; never for herself.

So many nights she wished you were there; never to just kiss you goodnight.

So many nights she thought a million thoughts; never about anyone else.

So  many nights she laid in bed; never falling asleep.

So many nights she needed you more than ever; never just to talk.

So many nights she looked in the mirror, never seeing the person you want.

So many nights she wondered what tomorrow would bring; never did she muse you weren’t there.

So many nights she listed to love songs; never because the Quiet Storm was on.

So many nights she felt so hopeless; never because hope was not there.

So many nights she wrote about you; never realizing how much better she could do.

This is nice, but I’m confused as to why this is on the Baker Blog. This seems more fitting for a personal diary.

Thank you for the compliment. However, as a blogger I think it is important to address issues that we all go through and it is something that Baker students face as well as other college and high school students. I attempt to address issues that hit what people really are dealing with and I haven’t had a complaint yet. If anything people are appreciative that I address personal issues because it helps them relate and know they aren’t alone. I personally feel if you are that confused then maybe it isn’t something you can relate to. Thank you very much 🙂
