Kari Hilmes Profile
My name is Kari, and I am a senior here at Baker. I am originally from Greeley Colorado, a town about the size of Lawrence, Kan., just an hour north of Denver and 10 minutes from the mountains.
Over the last four years, I have been working toward a degree in Theatre and a minor in Religion. Following my graduation in May, I plan on auditioning for the many theatres around the Kansas City area, as well as applying for technical positions that may be open. The great thing about getting a degree from a liberal arts college like Baker is that I have received training in almost every aspect of the theatre, which makes me much more marketable for future employers.
Since being at Baker, I’ve made many friends, found the person I now call fiancé, and have been involved in a lot. On campus, I am an active member of the Baker Ambassadors, Alpha Psi Omega Theatre Honor Fraternity, Loud Noises Improv Troupe, and Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Each of these organizations have given me plenty of fun memories to take with me after May. Some of these include traveling to other towns in Kansas to lead worship with the Ambassadors, playing the role of a cactus in a show, and bringing home 14 new members to ensure the continuance of my sisterhood in Alpha Chi.
There are many things to love about Baker, and many things to learn as well. Over the next few months, I hope to reflect on my last four years– where everything all began, what it’s become now, and how I managed to survive it all 12 hours away from home.
I hope you enjoy, and if you have any questions about what it’s like being a Wildcat, don’t hesitate to ask!
All the best,
