The Real World

The building of my job

And to think, people want to get out of college to get away from all the reading assignments and papers, to what… exchange it for morning traffic and 8-10 hour daily work shifts!? Goodness, I’m only 3 weeks deep into my 9 to 5 (well, 12 to 9 to be exact) and I’m already drained, exhausted, and on the verge of constructing my retirement plan. I mean I love the responsibilities, the environment, the experience, the growth, and free coffee, but I’d trade that all in for 18 credits, a sport, and prepared meals any day! Guess that’s just my college nostalgia kicking in.

College is 4 years (give or take a few), but the real world is forever! Well, much longer than your college years, so if you haven’t already, start enjoying your carefree and lenient college life while you can, because the real world is everything you expect it to be: scary, demanding, and full of coffee! Hope the summer jobs are going well though, and if you’re still searching for one, don’t give up and try to update your resume as much as possible! You’re basically selling yourself on paper, so make yourself look good and don’t be afraid to throw in minor accomplishments, certificates, and other key pointers that may set your application apart from the other hundreds applying for that same position. Good luck!

  1. So true Gloria! I was in such a rush to graduate and get out in the real world. And it really is the rest of your life so no hurry.

Can’t wait to see you back in the fall.
