Baker Homecoming ’10

This doesn’t even begin to describe half of my homecoming experience. What I love most about homecoming is the overall welcoming and happy environment that the whole city has. From the Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday night, to the Men’s Basketball Alumni game Saturday morning, to the Football tailgate, to the football game, then the Men and Women’s Soccer directly afterward to which all BU teams came out with a win! Then of course rounding out the night with the traditional Homecoming Dance at the Fault Line. I’m not sure if my day could’ve gone any better. My weekend was spent spectating great sports with great people, and the small atmosphere and family environment I experience everyday constantly reminds me of why I love this school so much.

Go BU!

Graduation From a Junior

As I wrap up my last few finals I realize I’m going to be the big man on campus next year. It seems like just yesterday that I was walking onto campus for welcome week as a freshman.  Time only keeps getting faster and faster, and while it seems like I still have a long road ahead, by the time I get there I’ll still be feeling like no time passed at all.  If time flies when you’re having fun, does it crash when you stop?  Since I don’t want to be responsible for the damages of time itself crashing, I’ll go ahead and keep it in the air.

Time flies when youuuuuuuuuur alarm clock has wings!

It is always more difficult to part with something the more time you spend with it.  Freshman year you may know  some graduating seniors.  Sophomore year you’ve spent 2 full years now with this group, so it’s a little harder to see them go.  Junior year is when you’ve really drawn close to the graduating class.  People that you’ve looked up to as leaders for 3 years, gone to class with, partied with, and become the closest of friends with are now leaving the reigns in your hands.  Now you have three classes of people looking up to you. I don’t know if I’m quite ready yet.

There’s part of all of us that needs someone to look up to, a mentor or someone wiser to trust in and help us make decisions.  When you’re the senior, you are that person.  It’s a responsibility that you may not be aware of, until that freshman in your major starts asking you for help on tests, studying how you do things, and talking you up to his/her friends.  If you wonder why this is happening, ask yourself: who did you look up to when you first got here?

What I’m saying is, Class of 2010, I’m going to miss you guys!  I have some great friends among you.  Best of luck in the future, and come back to visit!  I hope I can fill the big shoes you are leaving behind.

P.S. Why didn’t you take your shoes? You’re gonna need those eventually.

New Year’s Resolution

What’s the first thing that follows a “Happy New Year’s” salutation? Yes — a new year’s resolution proposal. Which are about as temporary as the urge to uphold them. People will most commonly say theirs is to lose weight, be friendlier, or stop using profanity. And as great as all those sound, mine is a little more geared towards my studies. Coming off a 3.5 semester (the highest my GPA has been in college), my confidence level has elevated along with my grades. First semester is always like practice for the second one, so now I really feel like I can dominate in my studies. However, in order for this to be possible, there are some slight modifications that need to take place.

The following things need to increase:
1. The hours of sleep I get a night
2. The preparation I have before a test
3. The amount of time I spend productively in the library

The following things need to decrease:
1. The hours I spend on TV and video games
2. The amount of time I spend on Facebook & Twitter
3. The attention I give my phone over my work

You’d be surprised at how much a couple extra hours of sleep or studying a night will do to you. I’m excited to see the results this semester!
